Q and A with Brandon

Bio: Brandon Loggins
Start Date: May 6, 2000
Promoted to AM in Gastonia, NC May 2001
Promoted to ADM in Greenville, SC May 2002
Career CPO currently at 40,000

Graduating in May 2005 from Clemson University with a major in Biochemistry.

Q. What originally drew you to the Vector Marketing opportunity?
A. I liked the fact that I could set my own schedule and that working with Vector was different from a ‘normal’ summer work. I was bored with the ‘normal’ college student summer works. I was also drawn to the Vector opportunity because I would have the chance to make a lot more money than all my friends.

Q. What steps did you take to receive credit and what type of credit are you receiving?
A. In order to receive credit at Clemson I first contacted my region’s campus relations manager and had a packet of information on Vector Marketing sent to my advisor. From there I spoke with my advisor, but since he is in biochemistry he referred me to someone in financial aid. After being bounced around campus several times I finally spoke with a professor in the Speech and Communications Department. We emailed back and forth and set up the credit I would receive and the policy for checking in with him. I am currently receiving 3 credits for a speech and communication class for my work as an ADM with Vector Marketing. Obviously speech and communication play a large role in the Vector Marketing experience for a rep, as well as an ADM.

Q. What are some key phrases you used to help your advisor understand the academic value of your work with Vector Marketing?
A. I mentioned that we have been in business for 53 years and I also discussed how students have been receiving internship credit with Vector Marketing for a long time. I also dropped the name of a previous student who attended Clemson University and received credit for working with Vector Marketing. Although it is not a guarantee that I would receive credit I felt that providing a concrete example of another student helped my cause. I then just provided the professor examples of what I do on a day-to-day basis and this helped the professor see exactly what I would be doing and learning on the work.

Q. What advice would you give to someone looking to get credit?
A. I would tell them to be patient when dealing with professors because they are extremely busy people and often the best way to communicate with them is through email and rather than face to face contact. When trying to set up internship credit you need to be persistent and not give up hope. Sometimes it takes a while to find the correct person to speak with about credit on campus and you may get passed around a lot. So don’t give up right away, keep searching for the proper contact to help you receive internship credit. The last and most important piece of advice is start early. I started trying to get internship credit approved a month before the summer term in which I was looking to receive the credit. If you are looking for credit for this fall semester I recommend you start working on getting credit right now! I also found out that credit is not offered retroactively so you need to complete the internship registration process prior to starting your internship ‘work term’.

Q. What are the benefits of getting credit?
A. It helps to develop my resume and to complete my education faster. What is great is that I am also getting credit for something I enjoy and would be doing anyway. For the couple hours it takes to set up getting credit I can have a lighter course load in the fall, make money, gain experience and enhance my resume.
