![]() Q and A with Josh Bio: Josh Worland Started Sept. 1999 Promoted tso AM April 2000 Promoted to Branch Manager, May 2001 He graduated from Morehead state on December, 2001 and earned 21 credit hours from working with Vector Marketing. Q. What steps did you take to receive credit and what type of credit did you receive? A. My manager, Lana Jreisat, mentioned the opportunity to get credit. First, I went to my Sociology advisor, who turned me down. I had the same results with my department chair so contacted the communication chair, which said yes and granted me credit. I received 6 hours of co-op credit for my sales rep position. I applied again when I became an assistant and received 3 internship credits as an AM and 6 as a an office manager (3 in the spring, 3 in the summer). My final 3 were for a class substitution, counting towards my Masters. Finally, I updated Vector so that if my school called they had a record of it. (coop@cutco.com) Q. What advice would you give someone looking into credit? A. Very seldom will you walk in and just get credit, unless they are already familiar with Vector Marketing. Don’t give up if you get told no by one person. Role play what to say to your contact and have a packet sent out first from the campus relations department to "warm" them up. (A follow approach and request for packet are found at www.campusrelations.com). Q. What is one thing you make sure to mention to convince the advisor to grant credit? A. Talk about the skills you are gaining from Vector that have a direct correlation to the department in which you are applying. You have to sell your concept and how you are gaining these skills through this work. Q. What were a few benefits of the credit? How is it helping you in your work? A. As a rep the biggest benefit was with PHONE TIME. It is so easy to make calls when you can mention it in your approach. The resume experience is something everyone wants. In some cases an internship is more important than your actual degree. I always thought of my resume as a car option sticker, you should always try to add more options to it (awards, internship, conferences) "If you want credit, get it. You may get a few no’s or you may get a yes from the first department or teacher you ask, but someone will help you." |
